Knowledge Prerequisites
MongoDB is approachable for beginners, but this course assumes a small baseline coming in.
- Basic understanding of JSON — objects, arrays, key-value pairs.
- Basic JavaScript is helpful for the Mongoose and Node.js integration lessons, but not required to learn MongoDB's core concepts.
- Basic command-line comfort — running commands and navigating folders in a terminal.
Unlike some courses that assume SQL knowledge, this course teaches MongoDB's document model from first principles — prior SQL experience helps for comparison, but isn't necessary.
Tools You Need
A MongoDB Atlas Account
The easiest way to start — a free, managed cluster with no local installation required.
MongoDB Community Server (Optional)
For running MongoDB locally instead of (or alongside) Atlas.
MongoDB Compass
The official GUI for visually browsing and querying your data.
A Code Editor
VS Code with the MongoDB extension gives a convenient in-editor playground.
